Background
The UMDNJ Pain and Fatigue Study Center was created from the “Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Cooperative Research Center,” founded by Benjamin Natelson, MD in 1989. In collaboration with Gudrun Lange, PhD the Pain and Fatigue Study Center was opened in 2005 to continue longstanding NIH-funded clinical research projects and provide comprehensive treatment to those who experience medically unexplained pain and fatigue.
Our team is comprised of a group of New Jersey Medical School caregivers and other collaborating researchers who are dedicated to the scientific, multidisciplinary study of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. Often these conditions are a challenge to diagnose, extending beyond many traditional medical specialties, and can cause considerable disability.
Dr. Natelson is a nationally-recognized neurologist and researcher who specializes in the treatment of CFS and Fibromyalgia. Dr. Lange is a clinical neuropsychologist, expert in the clinical assessment and study of the cognitive and behavioral aspects of chronic pain and fatigue conditions. Their interests include immunological function, sleep disturbance, novel pain management modalities, and cognitive effects of chronic pain and fatigue.
