The Department contains modern laboratories equipped with the latest research facilities, including state-of-the-art workstations for bioinformatics and molecular modeling and other computing and information retrieval systems. The New Jersey Medical School has a Molecular Core facility for DNA and peptide synthesis and sequencing, a Proteomics Core facility and a spacious animal-care center with transgenic facilities. The George F. Smith Library of UMDNJ contains about 90,000 volumes and subscribes to approximately 2,500 journals, in addition to
providing access to online bibliographic retrieval systems for literature searches. A Scientific Data Processing Center affording numerous computing services is located on the Newark campus.
The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has more than 80 members, including about 25 faculty members involved in biomedical education and research.
