AMBULATORY FAMILY PRACTICE

Prerequisites None

Designed to provide a fourth year medical student contact with a variety of ambulatory family practice teaching experiences, and acquaint the student with the work of a family physician in a setting that allows the student responsibility appropriate to his or her level of knowledge and skills.
*Elective not open to international medical students


AMBULATORY PRIMARY CARE

Prerequisites Medicine or Pediatrics

Offers the opportunity to experience community-based internal medicine or pediatrics practice. This elective consists of full time work with a preceptor.
*Elective not open to students from other U.S. medical schools or international medical students


FAMILY MEDICINE IN THE COMMUNITY

Offers students the opportunity to participate in a special project related to COPC (Community Oriented Primary Care). These projects may relate to Community 2000, Student Family Health Care Center, Making Healthy MUSIC or other community oriented activities.

HEALTH DISPARITIES IN MINORITIES

Objective is to give the student an understanding of the health disparities of minorities and potential roles physicians can playin eradicating these disparities.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE IN PRIMARY CARE

Prerequisites Family Medicine, Medicine or Pediatrics clerkships

Credit will be provided for approved rotations in Family Medicine throughout the world.

RESEARCH IN FAMILY MEDICINE

STUDENT FAMILY HEALTH CARE CENTER (SFHCC)

Approximately one night per month during the third and fourth years (four week credit); throughout the academic year - credit will be given in May of the fourth year

Prerequisites Twenty (20) nights of participation in the 1st and/or 2nd year

SFHCC provides primary care to the residents of the greater Newark community, as well as a fulfilling medical, educational experience for the students.
