The Student Health and Wellness Center is a division of the Department of Family Medicine at UMD-New Jersey Medical School. The Center provides a broad range of services for physical and mental health, including:
- General primary medical care
- General mental health care
- Gynecology/contraception counseling
- Laboratory services
- Allergy shots (after allergist evaluation)
- Preventive screening
- Stress, anxiety, depression
- Adjustment disorders
- Counseling for weight management and smoking cessation
- Travel medicine
- Specialty consultation
- Immunizations
- Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure ("needlestick") counseling and treatment
- Management of common dermatologic conditions
- Psychiatric disorders
- Addictions
These services are provided by a Board Certified Family Physician and Addiction Specialist, as well as a Board Certified Psychiatrist and a licensed Psychotherapist. Services are provided in a "student only" private office located on the Newark campus of UMDNJ. All services are completely confidential.
The Center is open from 7:30am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Office hours are by appointment only, however, requests for same day appointments for acute illnesses are usually honored. Evening, weekend and holiday coverage for the Center is provided by board-certified Family Physicians from the Department of Family Medicine.
