Conferences and Seminars

  1. Pathology and Radiology Conferences: A rotating radiologist will provide unknowns and didactic lectures in their field of expertise; plain films, ultrasound, CT and MRI. Occurs twice per month. Every week, the fellows will examine interesting slides with the GI pathologist.
  1. Journal Club: This is held twice per month. Fellows will present articles from several journals covering the major basic science and clinical literature relevant to gastroenterology. Particular attention is paid to applying the principles of clinical epidemiology to assess the statistical significance and clinical relevance of research as applied to patient management.
  1. Research Seminars: Investigators from within and outside the GI Division give a series of monthly research seminars. The format varies. The fellows may present “research-in-progress” or research which will be presented at a national conference.
  1. Didactic Lectures: At least once per month a faculty member or a fellow will give a didactic lecture in one of the core gastroenterology subject.
  1. Board Review: The fellows will do simulated board questions.
  1. Visiting Faculty: Several guests of national repute visit the Division each academic year. A typical visit would include a Grand Rounds-type presentation and opportunity to meet with individual members of the Division over a 24 hour period.
  1. Attendance at National Conferences: It has been the custom that all fellows will attend one funded educational conference each year. Fellows will attend the annual American Gastroenterological Society Meeting (DDW) at least once during their fellowship. The Program Director undertakes to cover expenses for any fellow to attend a national meeting at which she/he is selected as a presenting author.
