The clinic practice is a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatric practice located in the Doctors Office Center on the UMDNJ-Newark campus. The combined practice ensures that while rotating through one specialty the skills of the other remain up-to-date. |
In this suite there are 5 patient care areas, two offices for discussion with fellow residents and attendings, and a treatment room for phlebotomy and vaccine administration. Functioning as a small group practice, it strives to provide comprehensive primary care to a diverse group of patients. It is one of the most successful outpatient services within the two departments that it serves.
 Clinic
attendance is required once a week in the afternoon during all months except
Night Float and ICU rotations. A PGY-1 resident will see 3 to 5 patients
per half day session, PGY-2 and 3's will see 5 to 8 patients per half day
session and PGY-4's will see 8 to 10 patients per half day session. A typical
clinic day always includes time devoted to education on disease entities
and treatment strategies, as well as ample time to bond with attendings
and residents within Med-Peds. |

Our
clinic practice ensures that there is continuity among residents and their
patients. This is optimized by patients returning to see their resident
doctor on their particular clinic day. Most patients know all of the residents
and attendings by name. The patient base consists of both medicine and
pediatric patients. Our referrals come from the Emergency department,
the inpatient floors, the nursery and the community. Our continuity clinic
in the Doctor's Office Center has a well equipped computer system to access
laboratory and radiology reports. The Doctor's Office Center building
houses several subspecialties in medicine and pediatrics, social work
services, outpatient radiology services, and an extensive pharmacy.
