A Message from the Chair

Welcome to the homepage of the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. Our department has a long tradition of excellence in research and teaching. The research programs of departmental faculty members provide opportunities for undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate research in some of the most important and exciting areas of contemporary biomedical science.

The department shares the state-of-the-art International Center for Public Health with the Public Health Research Institute (PHRI) Center of New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) and the Global Tuberculosis Center of NJMS. We have developed collaborative research programs and a joint graduate program with PHRI scientists, and have played a leadership role in the development of a new multidisciplinary PhD program that will replace departmental PhD programs in the fall of 2011. Several of our faculty are members of the New Jersey Medical School-University Hospital Cancer Center, and have their labs in the new Cancer Center.
