The UMDNJ Neurology Residency Program for adult neurology utilizes three major facilities: University Hospital , Newark ; Veterans Administration Medical Center , East Orange ; and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick . These centers provide resident physicians with extensive clinical exposure through an annual total of more than 1,100 neurology admissions, 2,900 inpatient neurological consultations, and 12,000 outpatient clinic visits. Active electro diagnostic laboratories provide further opportunities for resident physicians to enhance knowledge and refine skills.

University Hospital is the main teaching hospital for UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School . Patients include local residents who receive their primary care at the hospital, as well as as tertiary referral patients, especially in the areas of multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and neuromuscular disease.

The East Orange VAMC is a major teaching affiliate of UMDNJ-NJMS. It serves a large veteran population including patients with both acute illnesses such as stroke and chronic conditions such as dementia and epilepsy.

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is the main teaching hospital of UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School . RWJ is a major tertiary referral site for movement disorders.

Because neurology residents are encouraged to read the neurological literature, the teaching facilities maintain comprehensive medical libraries. Neurology reading rooms at each hospital provide access to selected neurological texts and reference materials and computerized data bases.
