Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology Fellowship Program
The two-year program is designed to provide a comprehensive educational experience in all aspects of neurointerventional care, while promoting clinical research. With a combined faculty consisting of an interventional neurologist and two endovascular neurosurgeons, the fellows are exposed to and actively participate in the entire spectrum of neurointervenional care. This spectrum includes the most current endovascular techniques and technologies for the treatment of cerebral aneurysms, AVMs, spinal vascular malformations, tumors, acute stroke and atherosclerotic diseases of the cervical and intracranial vessels. Additional expertise in spinal vertebroplasty and treatment of tumors of the head and neck further enhance the fellows’ educational experience.
Recognized as a comprehensive stroke center in the state of New Jersey, University Hospital provides fellows with an opportunity to not only train in a high-volume environment and use the most current technologies available, but also to perform mentored clinical research in all venues of cerebrovascular disease.
The goals of the Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology Fellowship are centered on patient care and research, and education. To that end, scholarly activities in anatomy and radiation physics are being developed that will serve as the basis for education of all fellows.
Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology at UMDNJ continues to be a pioneer in this ever-expanding field. With multiple IRB protocols and upcoming participation in multi-center randomized trials, UMDNJ’s program will continue to grow as the leading institution in the state and be at the country’s forefront of education and patient care. The program will certainly provide you with the necessary skills and knowledge that will allow you to become a leader in the field. For more information contact Solomon Caudle at 973-972-2342.
Didactic Education:
Endovascular Educational Programming
- Case presentation conference: Once a Month, Wednesday evening at 4:00. Fellows prepare and present a case history with pertinent diagnostic studies and scans and operative treatment plans. The case is usually unknown to a portion of the resident and attending staff. Discussion centers first on presentation, then on differential diagnosis, then on most appropriate diagnostic studies, then on operative approaches, then on family discussions regarding risks and benefits and finally on outcomes and decision points.
- Journal Club: Once a month, Wednesday evening at 4:00. Each month a different attending is assigned to head Journal Club. Approximately four articles are chosen, one of which is a “classic” article on a topic in which that particular attending has expertise. Articles are discussed, reviewed, and critiqued.
- M & M Review: Once a month, Wednesday evening at 4:00. Each fellow presents his or her assigned cases at the Morbidity and Mortality Conference. Each case is reviewed and discussed by the attendings and fellows.
- Research Meeting: Once a month, Wednesday evening at 4:00. A review of the current research efforts for all of the fellows is discussed. Critical discussions, along with collaborative discussions, center on the progress and rigor of the current research.
- Weekly Board Rounds: Each Friday morning from 7:30 to 8:30 AM the attendings host a review of the past week’s endovascular cases. It is open to all fellows, residents, and medical students.
