The program is ACGME approved for four years of combined training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.  The pathology residency training utilizes a consortium of three teaching hospitals.  The particular strengths of each of these hospitals exposes the trainees to a wide variety of material, expertise, and practice settings.  Two years of the program involve training in Autopsy and Surgical Pathology. Two more years are devoted to Laboratory Medicine. Elective subspecialty training is available to interested individuals in most areas of pathology.  NJMS-Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine encourages resident participation in the research activity of the department.

The University of Medicine and Dentistry for New Jersey, Newark Campus, is in the major cultural, educational, commercial, transportation, and population center of New Jersey and is just a short distance from New York City.
