Chair, Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R)
The University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) - New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) is seeking a Chair for the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R). The Chair will offer leadership and vision for the continued growth of the research, clinical and educational missions of the Department, as well as oversee departmental administrative, financial, and program components.
Candidates for the position must be eligible for appointment to the academic rank of Professor and have a demonstrated record of outstanding leadership and accomplishment. International recognition in clinical, research, and educational endeavors is expected, with strong experience in mentoring faculty.
The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is a dynamic and highly regarded academic department that is committed to the ideals of education, diversity and inclusion. The Chair of PM&R will take the lead in directing the academic activities of the Department at NJMS and will serve as Chief of Service at University Hospital. In addition, the Chair will be offered clinical privileges at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation (KIR), along with access to teaching and research opportunities there. The Chair of PM&R will also work with Kessler Foundation Research Center scientists, who have academic appointments in the Department, to maintain active research grants, support new grant proposals, and provide administrative and other support to strengthen the relationship between the two organizations. The PM&R Department is very involved in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows; it sponsors residency and fellowship training in many clinical and research disciplines, and has clinical faculty at a variety of sites. The successful Chair will bring together and strengthen these unique clinical, educational, and research resources, to foster continued growth and development of the Department.
UMDNJ is the largest health sciences university in the nation, and NJMS anchors its largest campus in the city of Newark, NJ. The campus is also home to the New Jersey Dental School, School of Health Related Professions, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the School of Nursing and the School of Public Health. The campus provides easy access to east coast cities including New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC to offer the benefits of both the metropolitan area and the nearby quiet suburbs with their highly ranked school systems.
