New Jersey's healthcare professionals better prepared to respond to emerging
health threats
5. Mission
Train broad categories of healthcare professionals to:
Recognize threats to the public's health, whether natural, accidental, or terrorist
Respond to the threat by notifying public health authorities
Meet patients' acute care needs
Participate in response, mitigation and recovery as part of a multi-disciplinary
team
6. Description of Activities
NJ PTC is a consortium of many of New Jersey's leading academic
and health care organizations dedicated to providing discipline-specific training
to a broad array of practitioners with the goal of enhancing recognition and
response capacity in the event of a disaster or catastrophic health event.
A variety of discipline-specific training options are provided
throughout New Jersey including lectures, symposia, hands-on workshops, web-based

A program which promotes awareness of practices for personal
protection and includes quantitative respirator fit testing is offered through
New Jersey Medical School and St. Barnabas Health Care System.
7. Publications
NJ PTC is sponsoring 10 CME category-1 credits for completion
of articles in New Jersey Medicine: Special Supplement - Public Health Emergencies:
Terrorism Preparedness. Articles include the following topics: legal issues,
preparedness policy, epidemiology, chemical terrorism, surveillance, SARS, public
health laboratory, radiological terrorism, nuclear power plant emergencies,
mental health, education and training. To request copies of the journal, visit

8. Opportunities for students
Work study opportunities are available to participate in administrative
and training activities including data collection and management, logistics
and operations, respirator fit-testing service delivery
