Biostatistics Core Facility

Introduction

The Biostatistics Laboratory, located within the Department of Preventive Medicine & Community Health, New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) provides a home for biostatisticians located within NJMS. It provides services to biomedical and laboratory researchers located primarily at the New Jersey Medical School, but also within other UMDNJ schools and generally within the Northern New Jersey area. Current areas of biostatistical expertise include design of experiments, linear models, epidemiologic studies, clinical trials, categorical data analysis, longitudinal methods, survival analysis and other applications of statistics in medicine. Expertise is also available in the area of spatial analysis (GPS, GIS based data). We have expertise in use of statistical software, including SAS and R/Splus.

Advisory Board

An advisory board comprised of senior NJMS clinicians active in research, GCRC representatives, Department of Preventive Medicine, NJMS representatives overviews the activities of the Center and helps guide the development of collaborative relationships with health researchers across Northern New Jersey.

Process

Once you submit a request for consultation, we will contact you for additional clarification and a free initial appointment. We will estimate the time required for consultation and availability of personnel. Approximate time requirements will be discussed and approved prior to performing any work.    We have found that investigators often unknowingly underestimate the scope of work that needs to be done for a given consultation project due to the data manipulation required to convert data into appropriate format for analysis. You will be alerted if the scope of work exceeds initial estimates before proceeding beyond agreed upon hours.  All initiation and completion time frames are subject to availability of staff.
