Preventive Medicine/Public Health Clerkship
PMPH Clerkship (required clerkship)
As part of the Jubilee Curriculum, a 4th year clinical clerkship was designed that integrates population health concepts into clinical education and practice. Two-week clinical rotations were created in collaboration with preceptors from clinical departments. A core curriculum that is common across all clerkship sites was developed which includes an introductory lecture on paradigms of preventive medicine and public health, as applicable to clinical medicine, and 4 targeted seminars: Sentinel Health Events and Surveillance; Healthcare Law And Clinical Practice; Comparative Healthcare Systems and Preventing Medical Errors – A Systems Approach. Our clerkship provides a necessary perspective for future doctors that is not provided anywhere else in their medical education. The introduction of a required clinical clerkship in preventive medicine and public health is an effective step towards improved training for medical students in population-based medicine.
