1.  Name of activity: Preventive Medicine Residency Training Program (PMRP)

3. Brief statement of mission and/or vision: There is no active Preventive Medicine Residency Training Program (PMRP) in New Jersey. The PMRP will train physicians to practice preventive care for contemporary public health challenges and problems. During the past century, preventive medicine and public health specialists have contributed remarkably to preventive care, health promotion and disease prevention. Today's preventive medicine specialists are in the forefront to control contemporary public health problems and offer preventive care.

5. Specific Aims and Activities: There are two objectives for the two years of the PMRP:

1. At UMDNJ-University Hospital (UH), Newark City Department of Health (NDOH) and NJ State Health Department (NJDOHSS) implementation of General Preventive Medicine Competencies: The achievements include: a) providing preventive care, which includes clinical preventive medicine and health promotion and disease prevention in the clinics; b) knowledge and skills to practice preventive care; c) demonstrating interpersonal communication skills with patients and their professional associates; d) carrying out adherence to ethical principles and showing cultural sensitivity to patients; and e) having residents demonstrate awareness of the health care system and ability to effectively call on systems resources.

2. At UMDNJ-School of Public Health (SPH)-Newark Campus to obtain a MPH degree.
