SMDEP - Summer Medical and Dental Education Program

SMDEP at UMDNJ is one of twelve national programs funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and administered through the Association of American Medical Colleges and the American Dental Education Association.

The SMDEP is a free (full tuition, housing, and meals) six-week summer medical and dental school academic enrichment program that offers highly motivated rising freshman and sophomore college students intensive and personalized medical and dental school preparation.

Program Outcomes
Accepted Students & Alumni

Since 2001, a total of 477 students have participated in the program. To date:

132 currently enrolled in medical school
28 currently enrolled at NJMS
60 enrolled in other health professions
16 currently pursuing careers outside of the health professions
