NJMS Committees & Student Representatives

 

Faculty Council - Chaired by the Dean and comprised of department chairs and designates, the Faculty Council sets policy for the medical school. Faculty promotions and policy or curriculum changes from any of the other NJMS administrative committees must be approved here. Current Representatives:

Committee on Academic Programs and Policies (CAP2) - CAP2 works in conjunction with the Office of Education and is the chief mechanism by which change is initiated and monitored throughout the curriculum. It must approve the work of two subcommittees, the Preclinical Curriculum Committee and the Clinical Curriculum Committee. Current Representatives:

Preclerkship Curriculum Committee (PCC) - The PCC assesses and initiates policy for change and/or improvement of first and second year courses. Each course in Year I and Year II of the curriculum is reviewed on a yearly basis. It is comprised of the course directors of each preclinical course as well as members from the Office of Education and student representatives. Current Representatives:

Clinical Curriculum Committee (CCC) - The CCC assesses and initiates policy for change and/or improvement third and fourth year clerkships. Each mandatory clerkship in Year III and Year IV of the curriculum is reviewed on a yearly basis and new electives and courses must have CCC approval prior to consideration by CAP2. It is comprised of the clerkship directors, members from the Office of Education and student representatives. Current Representatives:

Committee for Academic Integrity (CAI) - The CAI works to enforce the standards of academic integrity and professionalism and serves as a committee of faculty and students to determine appropriate sanctions for students brought up for infractions. Current Representatives:

Alumni Affairs Committee - This committee keeps alumni active at NJMS in ways that positively impact students, i.e. Career Night (alumni discuss various medical professions), Scholarship Dinner (alumni give monetary stipends to students) etc. Current Representatives:

Financial Aid Liaison - The Financial Aid liaisons are responsible for communicating with the Department of Financial Aid and interfacing with the student body. Liaisons work closely with the Office of Financial Aid to organize seminars for financial literacy and improving the general strength of financial aid programs at NJMS. Current Representatives:

Organization of Student Representatives - This committee meets with other OSR representatives from throughout the country to compare how other medical schools do everything from classes and clerkships to financial aid and transitions. Current Representatives:

180 West Market Housing Council - The Housing Council meets regularly with UMDNJ's Vice President responsible for the 180 West Market apartments as well as the building managerial staff to address concerns of residents. They work in conjunction with dental and graduate student representatives. Current representatives:
