During
her OB/GYN rotation, fourth-year student Suzi Bentley developed an interest
in not just a potential career path but in a good cause as well. While
spending time in the nursery, Bentley met several "boarder babies,"
newborns waiting to enter the state's foster care system. When she learned
that the babies, some of them premature, often left the hospital swaddled
in adult-sized t-shirts, she single-handedly organized a clothing drive
for the babies. Faculty, staff and students responded enthusiastically
and Bentley's family -- including a relative from England who knitted
sweaters and hats -- even joined the efforts. Here Jill Deacon, goddaughter
to Bentley's parents, and her husband Rob Deacon from London present Bentley
with hand knit sweater sets that Rob's grandmother made after hearing
about the project via the family grapevine.
