Reporting Ethical Concerns

At the January meeting of the UMDNJ Board of Trustees, a new policy was approved requiring employees to report suspected ethical and compliance concerns to appropriate parties within the University and protecting those employees from any form of retaliation - from harassment to termination. Guidelines that the UMDNJ Office of Ethics and Compliance had been following are now official university policy.

You can read the policy here: Ethics Policy

In addition, the policy reiterates that all employees and students have a responsibility to report possible misconduct. Proof of misconduct is not required - a good faith suspicion is sufficient. To report possible illegal or unethical conduct, call the Ethics Helpline at (800) 215-9664, or fill out an on-line reporting form at the UMDNJ Office of Ethics and Compliance web site:

http://www.umdnj.edu/complweb/forms/index.htm

If an employee honestly and in good faith makes an unfounded complaint, there are no consequences. If the compliant is make in bad faith or with malice, then the employee may be subject to discipline.

The Office of Ethics and Compliance will follow up with the person making the report with as much information as possible, but only if the employee is identified. This communication will not include the specific discipline imposed, if any.
