Ethics Update: Language amending the current Conflict of Interest Law was introduced to the Legislature on January 9 to allow academic state employees to receive honoraria and reimbursement or payment for travel from outside entities. The bill was referred to the Assembly Higher Education Committee. Read the bill here: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2006/Bills/A4000/3892_I1.HTM In addition, UMDNJ will participate in an Ethics Day on April 24 which will include a time for reflection on the past year and a half. Merger : The next meeting of the Legislative Task Force on Higher Education and the Economy, the joint task force headed by Senator Raymond Lesniak and Assemblyman Caraballo, took place on Friday, January 26. Kathleen Scotto, PhD, UMDNJ's Interim VP for Research, provided committee members with information regarding the current and future state of research at UMDNJ and describe current inter-institutional collaborations within New Jersey. Presidential Search : The latest update on the presidential search is that the fifth candidate was on campus last week, the sixth will come this week and that the search committee hopes to be able to put forward a name at the February Board meeting.
