Rehabilitation Physician Presents Novel Research During Annual Professional Meeting |
The American Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation recently published two abstracts on innovative aspects of coccyx (tailbone) pain research that was conducted by Dr. Patrick Foye, Associate Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at New Jersey Medical School. Foye, who is also Director of the Coccyx Pain Service at NJMS and University Hospital, recently presented research outcomes at the Annual Meeting of the Association of Academic Physiatrists in Anaheim, California.
During his presentations, Foye covered novel aspect of tailbone pain research. Specifically, he discussed tailbone pain after colonoscopy which previously had not been known as a risk factor for developing tailbone pain. He also described the use of seated MRI in evaluation of dynamic instability of the coccyx. Foye said, this information has also never been reported within medical literature. Foye suggests performing imaging studies while the patient is sitting because that is often when he or she experiences the most pain. Tailbone dislocations are also more visible during seated MRIs.
