Dr. Giovanni Caracci Appointed Interim Chair of Psychiatry

approval by the UMDNJ Board of Trustees, Dr. Giovanni Caracci has been
appointed Interim Chair of Psychiatry at NJMS by Dr. Robert Johnson, Interim
Dean of NJMS.
Dr. Caracci joined the medical school in September of 2003. Since then, he served as Associate Dean for Curriculum from 2004 to 2006 and he contributed to the School's preparation for a highly successful site visit by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. The result was an eight-year accreditation for NJMS.
Within the Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Carracci has served as Vice Chair for Education and Training and he holds the academic rank of Associate Professor. In his role as Vice Chair, he oversaw the Department's preparation for its successful five-year Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education in Child Psychiatry.
Dr. Caracci, who has held many significant national and international positions, has conducted research and taught extensively in the areas of Urban Mental Health, Clinical Psychiatry, Psychopharmacology, Geriatric Psychiatry and Cultural Competence. He has held several administrative positions in the clinical, administrative and teaching arenas.
