Looking for medical images? UMDNJ's Smith Library can help |
Under the heading "Images & Videos" in the "Quick Search" box there are links to images.MD or the Heal Digital Library. You will also find a link to the complete list of available image/video resources within the "Quick Search" box and from the "Resources" drop-down menu. Among the available resources you'll find: * An@tomy.TV presents human anatomy by broad body region in a 3-D view. It is possible to view various layers and to rotate the view by using the control buttons located on the bottom of the page. Additionally, MRI views are available by clicking a button at the top of the page. * HEAL, the Health Education Assets Library, is a national library of free digital assets that are available for use in teaching. You may search by subject or browse collections of images. HEAL includes a variety of resources: MRI slides, videos, photos, drawings, schematics, and tutorials. Each has a link to a full description of the item and to a downloadable copy. * The site images. MD contains a library of over 70,000 images, among them slides, charts, graphs, drawings, and photos. You may search by broad subject collection or by medical specialty when searching for images. There is an option to become a registered user; an advantage to doing so is the ability to create customized PowerPoint slides using the images.MD figures. PowerPoint is part of the images.MD package. Completed PowerPoint presentations may be e-mailed for ease of delivery. All images appear as thumbnails which may be clicked to enlarge. Images that * AccessMedicine.com provides a variety of resources for physicians and students. Links to a variety of information types are located from a toolbar across the topic of the product's page. This includes both images and videos. It is also possible to create a customized profile, "My AccessMedicine.com" which allows you to store favorite images and create your own repository of "favorites." * MD Consult provides its own link to images from a toolbar located on the top of its home page. There are approximately 50,000 images (photos, graphs, charts, etc.) taken from books that are part of the MD Consult library. You can perform a keyword search of the images database; all images are displayed as thumbnails which may be clicked to enlarge. * Electronic books are also available from the R2 Library, Books@Ovid, and STAT!Ref.. Each contains illustrative images embedded with its contents, again appearing as thumbnails which can be clicked to enlarge. You'll find a link to e-books under the "Books" drop-down menu at the top of the Smith Library home page. A selected list of images, tutorials, free online textbooks, and other educational resources may be found under "Learning Tools - Selected Sites." It is found under the "Subject Toolkits" heading under the "Quick Links" box, located in the lower right section of the Smith Library Home page or directly at http://www.umdnj.edu/librweb/toolkits/. All of the resources identified in this collection are developed by reputable universities, publishers, and/or government departments or organizations. Finally, the professionals at the Smith Library's Media & Microcomputer Center have developed their own list of bookmarks for multimedia resources on the web. It's located at http://libraries.umdnj.edu/newarklib/McCollections/medwebres.html or by clicking on the link to "Home," then "Departments," then "Media Center, and finally "Collections." This list appears under "Web-Based Collections." Again, this is a collection of both useful and reputable sites containing information that can be incorporated into lectures or presentations. Again, images from all content licensed by the UMDNJ - University Libraries may be freely used for educational purposes, with appropriate attribution.
