Name: Kathleen Barnes

Background: Ms.
Barnes graduated from Manhattan College with a BE in Electrical
Engineering in 1985. She was employed by IBM Semiconductor Development
Laboratory and earned a MS in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic
University in 1989. Ms. Barnes graduated from the Mount Sinai School
of Medicine with a MS degree in Genetic Counseling in
2002. She earned her certification from the American Board of Genetic
Counseling in 2002. She served on the Board of Directors of the
National Niemann-Pick Disease Foundation from 1994-2003.
Ms. Barnes has been with the Center
for Human and Molecular Genetics since 2002. She is involved in
prenatal, pediatric, and adult genetics at the New Jersey Medical
School in New Jersey and at their outreach center at Chilton Memorial
Hospital. She also provides genetic counseling to patients and families
with inborn errors of metabolism at the University Regional Newborn
Screening and Metabolic Treatment Center.
Professional Interests and
Activities: Ms. Barnes' main interests include genetic
counseling and therapies for metabolic disorders, loss and bereavement,
and prenatal genetic counseling issues. She is a member of the National
Society of Genetic Counselors and the Human Genetics Association
of New Jersey.
