Background: Isabel Dorjo completed training at the Eastern School for Physician Aides in New York City in 1972 and received an A.S. in medical technology from New York Community College in 1974. She has worked in laboratory and medical office settings as a laboratory technician and medical assistant. Prior to her genetic center experience, she performed prenatal education and outreach services for the Healthy Mother/Healthy Babies program of the Cathedral Health System, Newark, NJ.

Ms. Dorjo has been with the Center for Human and Molecular Genetics since 1987 as a Genetic Counseling Assistant in the multilingual outreach program. She serves as an interpreter, patient service facilitator and conducts genetic and cultural awareness education to the public and professionals. Languages: Fluent in oral and written Spanish and fluent in oral Portuguese.

Professional Interests and Activities: Ms. Dorjo's major areas of interest are the promotion of health care accessibility and prenatal genetic education. She has been involved in the translation and development of multilingual educational materials. Ms. Dorjo is particularly interested in the cultures of South America and immigrant adaptation in the United States.
