Marvin N. Schwalb, PhD
Professor of Pediatrics and Professor of Microbiology and
Molecular Genetics, Associate Director of the Institute of Genomic
Medicine
Background
Marvin Schwalb received his Ph.D. in 1967 from State University
of New York at Buffalo and did his post-doctoral training at Brandeis
University. He has been on the faculty of the New Jersey Medical
School since 1969. Dr. Schwalb served as the Director of the Center
for Human and Molecular Genetics from 1990 to 2007 when the Center
became the IGM.
Professional Interests and Activities
Dr. Schwalb's major responsibilities include the clinical, diagnostic
and research activities of the Institute of Genomic Medicine. He
is responsible for the educational activities of the Institute including
programs in physician education in personalized and genomic medicine
His research interests include development of applied genomics in
biomedical research, diagnostic technology and genetics of neurological
diseases. He wasthe coordinator of the first year medical student
course in human genetics at the New Jersey Medical School from 1990
to 2003 when the course was integrated with Biochemistry to become
Molecular Genetic Medicine.
