Name: Lorraine Suslak, M.S.

Title:   Certified Genetic Counselor

Background: Ms. Suslak received a Master of Science degree in Genetic counseling from Sarah Lawrence College in 1974. She is Board Certified as a Charter Diplomate of Genetic Counseling in the American Board of Medical Genetics in 1982 and Board Certified as a Charter Diplomate in the American Board of Genetic Counseling in 1993. She worked as a genetic counselor in New York for five years before coming to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1980. Ms. Suslak has had a faculty appointment since 1983 in Pediatrics as an Associate in Pediatrics. She received the Regional Leadership Award from the National Society of Genetic Counselors in 1996 and was elected to the American Board of Genetic Counseling in 1997. Language: moderate ability in communicating with Spanish speaking patients.

Professional Interests and Activities: Ms. Suslak is interested in the psychosocial impact of genetic disorders on families. She has served on the Education Committee of the Human Genetic Association of New Jersey and has been active in the effort to license genetic counselors in the State of New Jersey . She has presented research papers at national genetics meetings and published articles on genetics in several medical and genetic counseling journals.
