Background:
Dr.
Tolias obtained his Ph.D. from McGill University in Canada, was
a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard University and received Executive
training at the Wharton Business School of University of Pennsylvania.
He has previously served as Vice President of Worldwide Advanced
Research, at Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics – a Johnson & Johnson
company, one of the world's largest clinical diagnostic product
development and manufacturing companies, where he was responsible
for Technology Assessment, Discovery Research and Clinical Development
of Biomarkers that support J&J therapeutic products. Dr. Tolias
has also served as Executive Vice President of Corporate Development
at Rosetta Genomics, a public biotechnology company focused in microRNA-based
diagnostics and therapeutics. His role was to develop Global Strategy,
lead Global Business Development and US Operations and assist the
company towards their eventually successful IPO. Earlier in his
career, Dr. Tolias was Founder and Director of the Center for Applied
Genomics, an academic R&D center now part of the Institute of
Genomic Medicine. He previously served as an Associate Professor
of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics, UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical
School , an Associate Member at the Public Health Research Institute
and earlier as an Assistant Member.
Professional
Interests and Activities:
Dr.
Tolias's research interests are rooted in translational medicine,
focused on the discovery, validation and clinical development of
biomarkers that serve the diagnostic and pharmaceutical markets. He is also the founder of several biotechnology companies,
a consulting and capital sourcing firm specializing in the biotechnology
sector and serves on multiple boards
of directors/trustees . He has authored over 40 scientific
publications, is a member of the editorial board of the journal Personalized Medicine and has received dozens of grants,
awards and honors.
