Vitale received her Ph.D. in 1982 from the University of Naples,
Italy in the field of Biological Science. She did her post-doctoral
training in the same institution in the Department of Genetics,
General and Molecular Biology from 1982 to 1985 and a second fellowship
at the Gaslini Childrens Hospital, Dept of Human Molecular Genetics
in Genova, Italy from 1985 to 1989. In the United States, Dr. Vitale
was appointed Research Coordinator at the Mount Sinai Medical School
- Brookdale Center for Molecular Biology in New York and served
as a Research Scientist in the Department of Molecular Genetics
of Columbia University in New York City.
Dr. Vitale has been with the New
Jersey Medical School in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular
Genetics since 1994, as an Assistant Professor. She directs the
Human Gene Mapping Program of the Center for Human and Molecular
Genetics. Dr. Vitale also serves as an Adjunct Senior Research Scientist
at the CNR Institute of Cybernetics in Arco Felice, Italy. Language:

Professional Interests and
Activities: Dr. Vitale's major areas of research interest
include applied genomics in biomedical research and gene mapping
in neurological diseases. She has published studies regarding Ehlers-Danlos,
Marfan syndrome, spinal muscular atrophy, Wilson disease, deafness,
situs inversus, mental retardation syndromes and multiple sclerosis.
Additonally, she serves as an instructor for the first year medical
student course in human genetics and the master of science program
at the New Jersey Medical School.
