The Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine offers a complete range of services related to the management of pregnancies from normal to highest risk. It is a key component of the University Hospital's state-designed Level III perinatal center. Particular expertise is available in obstetrical emergencies and complications. A multi-disciplinary approach is used for the management of complicated pregnancies.

The staff of the Division of Prenatal Diagnosis and Infectious Diseases has special training and interest in the diagnosis and management of high risk pregnancies. Services include amniocentesis, alpha-fetoprotein tests, chromosomal analysis for congenital malformations, and detailed ultrasonography and color Doppler flow studies to identify fetal anomalies. A genetic scan is available for those patients who decline genetic amniocentesis. The personnel of the Center for Human and Molecular Genetics form part of the multi-disciplinary perinatology team.

Support Groups

F.A.T.E. (Feelings After Termination Experience) is a support group for individuals or couples who have terminated a pregnancy due to fetal abnormalities. The self-help group is facilitated by a genetic counselor and a social worker from the Center for Human and Molecular Genetics. The group meets the first Tuesday of each month, 7:30 to 9:30pm, at Overlook Hospital in Summit. No fees are charged. Please call the above telephone number for more information.
