Introduction to Biomedical Sciences (GSND5200) The course Introduction to Biomedical Sciences is designed as a comprehensive interdisciplinary course for all first year graduate students in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. The two main goals of the course include providing a broad foundation in biomedical sciences that will serve as a framework for advanced study in more specialized areas, as well as encouraging students to formulate and then test hypotheses. The class will meet for three two-hour sessions each week, Mon., Wed., Fri., 9:30-11:30 AM. The course consists of five modules and is worth five credits. Students will be evaluated by examinations that follow Modules 2, 3, and 4, as well as small-group presentations in Module 5 of the course. Examinations will be primarily essay style. The textbook for the course is Molecular Biology of the Cell, Fifth edition, (2008) by Alberts, Johnson, Lewis, Raff, Roberts, Walter, 2008, Garland Science, New York.
