Microbes and Infectious Disease Microbiology -- MICRN 5233 Welcome to the web site for Microbes and Infectious Disease. The class will meet on Tuesdays from 2:00 - 5:00 pm in MSB B610, for a total of 15 weeks during the spring semester. Start: January 8 – End: April 24. The course will cover general concepts and specific examples of the interactions between pathogenic microbes, including bacteria, fungi, parasites and animal viruses, and their human host. Particular attention will be directed to the molecular description of microbial virulence factors and host defenses. The course consists of lectures, short film clips, readings and in-class discussions prior to each lecture. Lectures will be held in the Medical Sciences Building (MSB) Rm C600. Student Evaluation: Grades will be based on three in-class exams (Mid-term 1, 30%; Mid-term 2, 35%; Final, 35%). Suggested Text: Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews: Microbiology, 2nd Edition. Eds.
