Protein Dynamics in Health and Disease– BIOC5030

This lecture-based course will focus on the biogenesis, structure and localization of proteins under normal physiological conditions, as well as in disease states.  Emphasis will be placed on the experimental approaches used in elucidating protein structure-function relationships, identifying novel disease markers or targets, and rationally developing small molecule or peptide therapeutics.  The course format consists of student and faculty lectures, presentation and discussion of primary research articles and reviews, and problem solving.  The course is required for Ph.D. candidates in the Department of Biochemistry, and is also open to Ph.D. candidates from other departments, as well as Masters students.  Prerequisite:  Fall semester of the Core Course or Molecular & Genetic Medicine (MGM).
