LET’S MOVE NEWARK Dr. Robert L. Johnson, Dean of NJMS, was one of the featured speakers at Newark City Hall as Mayor Cory Booker launched "Let's Move! Newark," a program aimed at curbing the pediatric obesity epidemic. This initiative is part of First Lady Michelle Obama's national "Let's Move!" campaign. WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION ENDORSES NEW TB TEST On December 8, 2010, the World Health Organization (WHO) endorsed a novel rapid test for tuberculosis (TB). The test, Xpert MTB/FIF, could revolutionize TB care and control by providing an accurate diagnosis for many patients in about 100 minutes, compared to current tests that can take up to three months to have results. |

CANCER CENTER RECEIVES GRANT The National Cancer Institute awarded the New Jersey Medical School-University Hospital Cancer Center nearly $1 million for an interdisciplinary training grant that focuses on pre- and post-doctoral students. This five-year grant will bring together 15 research faculty and five clinical preceptors from NJMS to focus on Translational Research. |

BEST MANUSCRIPT Chunxiang Zhang, MD, PhD (left), associate professor and vice chair for research, and Yunhui Cheng, PhD, research associate, New Jersey Medical School Department of Anesthesiology, were recently recognized by the American Heart Association’s Circulation Research editorial board for “Best Manuscript.” The manuscript (Cheng et al., MicroRNA-145, a Novel Smooth Muscle Cell Phenotypic Marker and Modulator, controls Vascular Neointimal Lesion Formation.
