General Overview
The New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) is required to document the clinical experiences of the medical students throughout their four years.  The main goal was defined in accordance with the LCME requirements.  The LCME (Liaison Committee on Medical Education) requires medical schools to balance the exposure of the students to core curriculum content during clinical experiences.  That is achieved by the use of Meditrek, a web based system to collect, store, summarize and report all of the students’ clinical cases.  It allows educators to provide supplemental learning opportunities in areas where the clinical experiences might be deficient.

Meditrek Access
Meditrek can be accessed via desktop or mobile devices such as PDAs (Pocket PC or Palm), smart phones like Blackberry, iPhones/iTouch or any other cell phone with browser.  If you have wireless connection on your handheld device, you can track and enter patient information at the point of contact in any wireless supported area.

For those of you with smartphones (such as a Blackberry, iPhone/iTouch, Nokia or Palm phones), please use the mobile version of Meditrek at the following address: https://www.meditrek.com/mobile.htm . The Patient Encounter Log form has been optimized for mobile browsers making it easy to navigate on a handheld device. You may want to add the mobile link to your Favorites for future use.

Please remember that we encourage you to track your encounters during the point of contact (while in a wireless environment) to ensure accuracy.

If you have any questions, you can contact Courtney Terry-Lewis at terryce@umdnj.edu or Joanne Garcenila-Calinao garcenjv@umdnj.edu .

Recommendations
Students are not required to purchase a PDA, phone or any other mobile device for patient tracking nor does NJMS recommend a specific device, model or brand.  However, if you choose to purchase a mobile device, wireless capability is highly recommended as the medical school is now wireless.
