Current Rates for Grant Applications

The following rates should be used when calculating all grant budgets:

Salaries:

Current salaries should be increased by 4% for each grant year. The federal government will pay no portion of any salary exceeding $183,500. (Effective 1/1/06 ) NIH GUIDE

Fringe Benefits:

34% of requested salary for all Full Time Employees or more than half-time employees.

Postdoctoral Fellows:

8% of salary plus $2760/year (for Health and Life Insurance) (Note: $7188/year - Cost of health insurance for the entire family.)  Link here for more information on Postdoctoral Insurance.

Institutional Allowance on Individual Fellows Sponsored by non-Federal Public & Private Institutions (Domestic & Foreign)

Predoctoral Fellows:

Graduate Students: or less than half-time employees:

Effective, Fall of 2005, budgets supporting graduate students should include 8% of salary the student health insurance fee ($1917.00/year) and the Health Services Fee ($300/year) in addition to $24,000 annual graduate student stipend.

Non-salary Annual Increases: 5% on non-salary expenses; 5% over current rates for Research Animal Facility charges

Indirect Costs/Facilities and Administrative Costs:

Federal Negotiated Rate applicable to all on-site federally sponsored research grants, contracts and other agreements: 55.5% of direct costs not including equipment or patient care costs. (DHHS Agreement Dated: December 3, 2001 )

Federal Negotiated Offsite Rate: 26%

Federal Negotiated Rate for Training Grants: 8%

Fees and Charges Related to Industry Support: When negotiating with industry, faculty are expected to negotiate for full indirect cost recovery.

Industry and/or Clinical Trial Support: 25% (minimum)

Institutional Review Board Fees: $2500 for initial IRB review and $750 for annual IRB continuation review.
