Federal Work-Study Option
We have expanded the Summer Student Research Program to include several work-study
projects. We are working with the Federal Work Study (FWS) Program and the Financial
Aid Office which will enable more work-study-eligible students to obtain financial
support.
Student Information:
Interested students should contact
Cynthia Hamlett-Robinson in the Student
Financial Aid Office (ADMC 1208) to complete or update the necessary financial
eligibility forms. Please note: beside financial eligibility, students must
be currently enrolled in NJMS to qualify for these work-study positions.
Work study-eligible students may work a maximum of 35 hours per work @ a rate
of $12.00 an hour and are paid on a bi-weekly basis through the University payroll
system. If a student works full time for eight weeks, they can receive $3360.
This amount is taxable and will require the completion of a W-4 form.
This summer the following projects are being offered to work study-eligible
students.

Information:
As you may know, funding
for the Summer Student Research Program (SSRP) is very limited. We have been
working with the Financial Aid Office to attempt to bring additional funds into
the program so that more students can benefit from working closely with a mentor
for eight weeks during the summer. Even if your project does not meet the SSRP
Guidelines you can still submit it via this work-study option.
Work study-eligible students can work
a maximum of 35 hours per work @ a rate of $12.00 an hour and are paid on a
bi-weekly basis. Student salary derives 75% from work study and 25% from the
mentor/investigator. Based upon the previous scenario a student will earn $3360
for eight weeks of work on your project. Under this program students will receive
$2520 from Federal Work Study (FWS) and the remaining $840 will derive form
the Faculty Mentor.
Please keep in mind that students
are only paid for the time that they work on your project not to exceed 35 hrs
a week. Mentors are responsible for 25% of that time.
How this works: your
project will be submitted as a job description to FWS and advertised to students.
You will be responsible as the mentor to sign the FWS pay vouchers confirming
the date, times and total hours the student worked in your lab. Students may
work longer than eight weeks as long as they remain eligible for work study.
Two thirds may continue to employ the students throughout the school year. Several
faculty members have found this an attractive way to provide continuity to projects
that are introduced over the summer.
If you are interested in having your
project posted as work -study, please download and complete the following forms.
Completed Work-study
forms should be sent to:
Letitia Dean,
Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, MSB C-690.
