General Overview
The New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) is required to document the clinical experiences of the medical students throughout their four years.  The main goal was defined in accordance with the LCME requirements.  The LCME (Liaison Committee on Medical Education) requires medical schools to balance the exposure of the students to core curriculum content during clinical experiences.  That is achieved by the use of Meditrek, a web based system to collect, store, summarize and report all of the students’ clinical cases.  It allows educators to provide supplemental learning opportunities in areas where the clinical experiences might be deficient.

Meditrek Access
Meditrek can be accessed via desktop or mobile devices such as PDAs (Pocket PC or Palm), smart phones like Blackberry, iPhones or any other cell phone with browser.  If you have wireless connection on your handheld device, you can track patient information at the point of contact in any wireless supported area by logging directly onto www.meditrek.com .

An alternative method to access Meditrek which doesn’t require wireless connection is to install the client software, called Superwaba version 5.85, onto your mobile device.  Following installation, you can enter data onto your device and upload records later to the website via PC using a USB port.  At the end of every clerkship rotation, you will need to download the new schedule from the Meditrek website onto your device.  Please note that this is not the preferred method, however, the client software will be supported until June 2009.

Recommendations
Students are not required to purchase a PDA, phone or any other mobile device for patient tracking nor does NJMS recommend a specific device, model or brand.  However, if you choose to purchase a mobile device, wireless capability is highly recommended as the medical school is now wireless.
